Growing Up

A well-do-do woman had just finished a short speech extolling the virtues of family, business, and the Protestant work ethic when a man she'd known as a student confronted her.

"You're such a hypocrite," the man told her. "I remember when you hated corporations, swore you'd never have children, and picketed in front of your parents' church. What went wrong with you?"

The woman replied, "I was a Communist until I got a real job, a feminist until I fell in love, and an atheist until I survived a terrible car crash."

"What does that mean?" Her former friend asked, puzzled.

"It means that I grew up," she replied.
